Miracles, The Nature of Dis-ease and Multiple Identity Syndrome

Dissociative Identity Disorder more commonly known as Multiple Personality Syndrome has something miraculous to teach us about the nature of dis-ease. First of all let's talk about D.I.D and what it is.

"Dissociative identity disorder (DID) is a mental illness that involves the sufferer experiencing at least two clear identities or personality states, each of which has a fairly consistent way of viewing and relating to the world. Some individuals with DID have been found to have personality states that have distinctly different ways of reacting, in terms of emotions, pulse, blood pressure, and blood flow to the brain." Medicinenet.com

Now for the miracles - did you know that these distinct personalities all inhabiting one body are able to manifest different disease states? Yes one body - different dis-eases!

Perhaps you need some proof? I began investigating this amazing phenomenon when I was working as a natural health consultant and one of my clients had DID. During one consultation this remarkable lady, who we will call S, 'switched' personalities and I literally saw some bruises on her arms disappear! I asked the personality, who we will call H, in front of me about this and she answered that S had fallen a few days ago and bumped herself on a table on the way down, and then H shrugged as if to say it was nothing to do with her.

That night my mind was in a constant state of wonder and curiosity about this amazing phenomenon. I had to know more. You see I had come a long way on my own road to health, but seemed at an impasse and if this ability of the human body to turn dis-ease states on and off was real then even more questions came to mind:

  • Is illness real at all?

  • If not then what are we curing?

  • If illness and dis-ease are wrapped up in a personallity, then what is it that causes illness>

just to name a few.

My research:

  1. Within a given individual, multiple disease states can exhibit
themselves exclusively of each other, depending on the state of
consciousness ('personality') currently activated in the conscious
mind. Thus, with one personality expressing itself in the conscious
mind/body system, the individual can show all the clinical symptoms of
diabetes, for example, and require insulin -- while a shift into
another personality may result in no presence of any disease state or
perhaps the clinically-confirmed appearance of a cardiovascular
condition requiring entirely another type of medication and treatment.

Thus, clinical measurements show changes not only in immunoreactivity
when the individual switches from one personality to another but in
bodily functions and metabolism as well, as the subject becomes
hypertensive in one personality, diabetic in another, and neither of
    these in yet other states of consciousness (Hall, N.R.S. et al., 1994;
    Cosh J., 1996; Hirshberg C. & Barasch M., 1995).

  2. Research reported over the last decade on some of those suffering
from multiple personality disorder (Hall, 1994; Barasch & Hirshberg,
1995). What the studies report is the bona fide appearance of clinical
symptoms of a particular medical ailment with the manifestation of a
'personality' in consciousness, requiring the specific appropriate
medicines and treatment to sustain function and life. All the while
the association of another state of consciousness in the same
subject's mind creates an entirely different set of clinical symptoms
of pathology to precipitate, and no pathology appearing whatsoever
when a third state of consciousness presents in the conscious mind.
Thus, a diabetic in one 'personality' becomes a cardiac patient in
another state of consciousness and shows no medical pathology at all
when another schizoid fragment of consciousness presents itself
through yet another state of mind. The confirmation of genuine
clinical medical symptoms of disease, concurrent with specific
psychological states of consciousness in the subject, demands an
understanding that supersedes the casual and common misunderstanding
and misuse of the labels 'hypochondria' in medicine and psychiatry,
and further demonstrates the influence of consciousness beyond the
limits of conventional mechanistic mind/body notions of causality and
    disease etiology...

  3. "[Candace Pert, Ph.D]: Emotions are in two realms. They can be in the
physical realm, where we?re talking about molecules whose molecular
weight I can tell you, and whose sequences I can write as formulas.
And there?s another realm that we experience that?s not under the
purview of science. There are aspects of mind that have qualities that
seem to be outside of matter. Let me give you an example. People with
multiple personalities sometimes have extremely clear physical
symptoms that vary with each personality. One personality can be
allergic to cats while another is not. One personality can be diabetic
    and another not.

[Bill] Moyers: But the multiple personality exists in the same body.
The physical matter has not changed from personality to personality.

Pert: But it does. You can measure it. You can show that one
personality is making as much insulin as it needs, and the next one,
who shows up half an hour later, can?t make insulin.

Moyers: So in the person with multiple personalities, the brain is
    releasing different messengers.

Pert: That?s one possibility. We just haven?t done the research to know that yet."

  4. ''The multiple personality offers a special window into psychosomatics,'' said Frank Putnam, a psychiatrist at the National Institute of Mental Health and a leading researcher in the field. ''With a multiple personality you can do research that holds the body constant while you vary the personality, so you can sort out how psychological states affect the body.''

''Multiples exhibit some remarkable medical phenomena.'' Dr. Putnam said. He gives the example of one patient who reacted normally to a sedative drug in one personality, but was totally unaffected by it in another.
''Some multiples carry several different eyeglasses, because their vision changes with each personality,'' said Bennett Braun, who directs a unit devoted to treating multiple personalities at the Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago. Dr. Braun reports the case of a young woman who in one personality was colorblind for blue and green, a problem that ended with the successful treatment of her multiple-personality condition. Another woman, admitted to a hospital for diabetes, baffled her physicians by showing no symptoms of the disorder at times when one personality, who was not diabetic, was dominant. A young man was allergic to citrus fruit in some personalities, but not in others.
    http://www.nytimes.com/1985/05/21/science/new-focus-on-multiple-personality.html?sec=health

Another unusual feature of MPD is that each of a multiple's personalities possesses a different brain-wave pattern. In addition to possessing different brain-wave patterns, the subpersonalities of a multiple have a strong psychological separation from one another. Each has his own name, age, memories, and abilities. Often each also has his own style of handwriting, announced gender, cultural and racial background, artistic talents, foreign language fluency, and IQ.

Even more noteworthy are the biological changes that take place in a multiple's body when they switch personalities. Frequently a medical condition possessed by one personality will mysteriously vanish when another personality takes over.

Dr. Bennet Braun of the International Society for the Study of Multiple Personality, in Chicago, has documented a case in which all of a patient's subpersonalities were allergic to orange juice, except one. If the man drank orange juice when one of his allergic personalities was in control, he would break out in a terrible rash. But if he switched to his nonallergic personality, the rash would instantly start to fade and he could drink orange juice freely.

Allergies are not the only thing multiples can switch on and off. If there was any doubt as to the control of the unconscious mind has over drug effects, it is banished by the pharmacological wizardry of the multiple. By changing personalities, a multiple who is drunk can instantly become sober. Different personalities also respond differently to different drugs.

Braun records a case in which 5 milligrams of diazepam, a tranquilizer, sedated one personality, while 100 milligrams had little or no effect on another.

Often one or several of a multiple's personalities are children, and if an adult personality is given a drug and then a child's personality take over, the adult dosage may be too much for the child and result in an overdose. It is also difficult to anesthetize some multiples, and there are accounts of multiples waking up on the operating table after one of their "unanesthetizable" subpersonalities has taken over.

Other conditions that can vary from personality to personality include scars, burn marks, cysts, and left- and right-handedness. Visual acuity can differ, and some multiples have to carry two or three different pairs of eyeglasses to accommodate their alternating personalities. One personality can be color-blind and another not, and even eye color can change.

There are cases of women who have two or three menstrual periods each month because each of their subpersonalities has its own cycle.

What does this tell us about the nature of illness?

That illness or dis-ease are all states of unease within the personality caused by beliefs and patterns of thought which can be inherited or created during a lifetime particularly passed on during childhood.

Now if illness and dis-ease are just patterns of thought or beliefs changing our minds holds the key to all miracles. See "The Biology of Belief" by Bruce Lipton, this medical researcher and University teaching professor has proved many things about how our cells and body work and this book will amaze you.

We are able to 'cure' ourselves of any physical illness just by changing our belief and patterns of thought about it - we know this is real because of the miraculous ability of those with DID to change their body state in an instant when changing their personality.

When one personality has no cellular memory or belief attached to a certain illness then that personality does not have any symptoms of that illness nor does it show up in medical tests! When we are able to process this information and realise it's potential to enable us to create miracles in our lives we are also able to heal all dis-ease states instantaneously. Perhaps eradicate disease completely from our lives.

Miracles indeed!

Chaos Bringer of Magical Flow and Order

chaos_4Image by alchymy8 via Flickr

Chaos a definition:

1. a state of utter confusion or disorder; a total lack of organization or order.
2. the infinity of space or formless matter supposed to have preceded the existence of the ordered universe.
3. a pattern or state of order existing within apparent disorder, as in the irregularities of a coastline or a snowflake

Chaos Quotes:

Chaos often breeds life, when order breeds habit. -Adams, Henry Brooks

She was one of those born to make chaos cosmic. -Beerbohm, Sir (Henry) Max(imilian)

I feel that art has something to do with the achievement of stillness in the midst of chaos. -Bellow, Saul

Chaos is inherent in all compounded things. Strive on with diligence. - Buddha

In the midst of movement and chaos, keep stillness inside of you. - Deepak Chopra

Chaos is a friend of mine. - Bob Dylan

Now that we know what Chaos is ( or do we?) let's talk about chaos in our lives. If you are like most of us, when your life is in a state of chaos you feel out of control and insecure and you strive to set your life in order again. Sometimes this can (and usually does) result in you feeling even more stressed than before as it can be very tiring keeping all those things under control.

We humans have many ways of creating order in our lives, we: label things, describe things, explain things, create systems, join societies, religions and groups, and generally resist any chaos in general. Why?

If Chaos is the original state of the universe and we were born out of chaos why do we resist it?

"You need chaos in your soul to give birth to a dancing star." - Neitsche

Chaos in the world brings uneasiness, but it also allows the opportunity for creativity and growth.” - Tom Barrett

What if all this stiving after order was unnatural? Could you give up your addiction to control and let go enough to embrace chaos rather than resist it? Remember what we resist persists!

"In trying to order chaos through explanation. This resists chaos and keeps us stick in chaos: "..possibly chaos is actually the natural order and in that chaos there might be islands of order. But chaos is the order. David Peat (exerpt from The Tao of Chaos by Stephen Wolinsky)

What if the very thing we are resisting has an untapped beauty and order that when explored can be rediscovered as an energy flow that brings us a deeper connection to ourselves as the universe?

Perhaps by allowing the state of chaos in our lives to expand our view of the universe we too will become expansive and able to create more, allow more and percieve more of everything in our lives. In doing so a new order will be revealed, one more suited to the potential of the lives we were meant to live and to who we really are.

When living from chaos we become aware of this expanded awareness the ability to percieve more options make different decisions instead of creating from habit that which we are comfortable with, we are able to create from a new expansive and enriched perspective. You know Einstein said that the true definition of insanity was doing the same things over and over and expecting a different result.

Have you ever thought about it? When you make decisions from the same perspective from which you created your life until now, you are on a treadmill and will continue to create the same things over and over again. True, you may not like what you get, you may even actively dislike it, but you re-create it over and over because you are comfortable with that discomfort. It feels like home and feels safe.

Just like a rat trained to run the maze the same way over and over in order to find it's food, you are running on the same scripts and making the same decisions about life from your narrow, controlled perception. Expand! Allow chaos to show you the magic of seeing and experiencing more of life - "life is a grand adventure or it is nothing at all." - Helen Keller

Within you is a 'dancing star' waiting to be born and it can only do so in the same way that all stars are born - out of chaos. Expand and allow chaos to show you the magic of you, all you can be and all your life can be.. Through the magic of chaos (the only true magic) you will find all your answers - yes all of them. How to heal, how to create more of what you really want and how to live your life fulfilled!

Easy Exercise in Expanded Awareness:

  1. Sit comfortably with your eyes open and find one thing/one spot to look at
  2. allow your eyes to focus on that one thing
  3. now let your focus soften while still gazing at that one spot
  4. allow your perception to shift while keeping your eyes in the one spot
  5. What more can you see? What more can you hear? What more can you feel?
  6. allow your awareness to continue to expand - keep asking yourself the questions in step 5 over and over each time you become aware of something new (see, hear or feel) ask the questions again.
  7. Practice keeping this expanded awareness on a daily basis and practice this everyday until it becomes automatic
You will be amazing at the difference living from an expanded awareness brings to your life!

Making the Most of the Gifts of Chaos and Zero

A plot of the Lorenz attractor for values r = ...Image via Wikipedia

Are you like most people and feel so stressed when things are chaotic in your life?

Are there times when you feel as though you have accomplished nothing, have nothing, are nothing?

You're not alone, most of us at one time or another have felt like this. when chaos happens in our lives it can feel as if the whole world is against us, nothing works the way it should and it can be so hard to wrap our minds around the changes needed to cope with the world shifting under our feet.

"STOP! the world I want to get off!"

Can I make a suggestion?

Instead of asking the world to stop, in times like this, you need to stop. Stop and take stock of what you are doing, how you are feeling, and what is happening in your life. Most of all find out what you are feeling, after you allow the stress of the chaos in your life to fall from your shoulders > what is left?

You just might find out that you are heading down a path that really feels wrong for you. Often we ignore the warning signs by being ever so logical and practical, "Oh no," we say to ourselves, "this is the most sensible thing for me to be doing." Even when we feel unhappy, even when we feel we are getting nowhere, we keep going for many reasons: it is a logical thing to do, it is a practical thing to do, all our friends tell us we are on the 'right' track, our family approves....

Chaos and zero come into our lives for a reason, to tell us we need change.. how do I know this? Let me tell you the story of chaos and zero (psst I love telling stories lol):

Zero - Most people think of the number zero, as meaning nothing and nothing to most people means there is nothing to work with, nothing there. However to a pure mathematician, zero is the number of pure potential, at zero nothing has been decided, and everything is possible, you can go into the negative or you could go into the positive it is up to you. So zero has not really taken anything away from you, quite the opposite, it has given everything back. Your power to choose.

Zero is not just a number it is a placeholder for pure potential. Did you know that zero was not always part of the number system. In fact it was only discovered through it's use as a place marker between positive numbers and negative numbers.

It was not until Pythagorus studied infinity that zero's potential began to be realised and even he believed that infinity had a limit that was then taken over by the concept of God. This idea was later rejected and the idea of a limitless void was embraced. Zero became an emblem of the new teachings, the rejection of the limits of the universe and the acceptance of the void and the infinite.

For those who love Math, here is the math of zero's basic behaviour to prove my point:

* Any number multiplied by zero is consumed by it. 5 x 0 = 0

* Zero is the only number that can be divided by any other number and still produce a
whole number, (which will always be zero). 0 / 978465 = 0

* Zero is the only number that cannot divide any other number. This is a calculation that is
said to be unworkable in math. When a number is divided by zero, the answer given is infinity. 5 / 0 = infinity. (When 20 / 5, the question is: How many times can 5 be taken away from 20? The answer is 4. If 20 / 0, then: How many times can 0 be taken away. from 20? The answer is infinite.)

Chaos The scientific definition of chaos is, "The primal state of unformed matter and infinite space supposed in some cosmogonic views to have existed before the ordered universe. A state of primal emptiness which is governed by simple and precise laws, but where the outcome is unpredictable and may change greatly with slight variations in starting conditions."

Interestingly nowhere does is say that chaos is a bad thing, in fact if you look at the definition is mentions "unformed matter," and "governed by simple and precise laws," and "outcome is unpredictable."

Chaos Theory is applied scientifically to systems that can be unpredictable like the weather, and it was found (by a scientist named Lorenz) that chaos was really a kind of order that kept the system in balance. Chaos is how systems keep balance? Yes, it is. When a system does the same thing over and over again it will (scientifically) eventually wind down into entropy, a state of confusion followed either by collapse or renewal. Chaos is part of the natural process by which living systems renew and revitalize themselves. As a creative force, chaos helps to create new levels of order, new environments, and new outcomes.

The flapping of a single butterfly's wing today produces a tiny change in the state of the atmosphere. Over a period of time, what the atmosphere actually does diverges from what it would have done. So, in a month's time, a tornado that would have devastated the Indonesian coast doesn't happen. Or maybe one that wasn't going to happen, does. (Ian Stewart, Does God Play Dice? The Mathematics of Chaos, pg. 141)

This phenomenon, common to chaos theory, is also known as sensitive dependence on initial conditions. Just a small change in the initial conditions can drastically change the long-term behavior of a system.

So again we come to a definition of chaos that releases us from standard daily outcomes and puts us into a state of potential - the potential to choose a new outcome, the potential to release us from a life that is unfulfilled and unsatisfying. The pure potential to make a small change that results eventually in our lives never being the same again (butterfly effect).

Ignoring these signs might mean that the confusion in your life is followed by collapse. If you understand what is happening and use this state as a chance to make new choices and decisions, this will lead to renewal.

Now I know that some of this science and math may not be your thing, (not really all that keen on math myself lol), however I want you to understand my meaning. Any time you feel as if your life is in chaos, or as if nothing is working it is time to take a step back, take a look at what you do and don't like about your life and what you are doing and being.

Decide which of your states of being and paths you are walking; are serving you and which of them are not. Decide by allowing yourself to go within and feel whether doing that, being that or feeling that are making you happy and joyous and if they are not, perhaps it is time to STOP!

Chaos and zero are magical, amazing and wondrous gifts in your life, enjoy the lessons they have to teach for they are here to keep us on track just like a compass that points away from the drag of the current that has us in its hold to a new and more satisfying life.

Chaos and zero are here to tell us that life is all about the choices we make and that there are infinite possibilities that we might not yet have tried. Perhaps by making a different choice we might find a happy-er and more full-filling life and take a step closer to reaching our potential.

We live in a magical, infinite universe and I can prove it scientifically, lol. Chaos is infinite possibilities and infinite potential so embrace the gift when it happens in your life.

now this is magic!
imagine the infinite possibilities,

Annie

The Search for the Truth - We are Star Stuff

Listen as Neil deGrasse Tyson explains how we are made of star stuff, and infiniteli connected and infiniteli entangled...
